Explore King William Road:
There is luxury for your senses on every corner of this stunning part of Unley.

As far as iconic streets go, Unley’s King William Road sits at the top of the tree. A beautifully calm setting for the perfect day, let’s take a walk down the stunning tree lined precinct.

For brunch, Hello Neighbour is a bright as a button café offering everything from healthy brekkie greens to buttermilk fried chicken with waffles, or a smashing crab and prawn omelette. The service comes with a genuine smile and the coffee is tops. Go all out and order a breakfast cocktail to sip as you watch the world go by. Best of all, in the evenings (Wednesday to Saturday) the space morphs into a gnoccheria called Artusi by Night. Housemade gnocchi followed by tiramisu… night sorted.

For take-home snacks of the European variety, you can’t go past fine wine and food merchant Bottega 1995. Head straight to the cheese display for a round of Clawson Blue Stilton, hit the bakery section for a Chateau Blanc croissant or baguettes with which to top with anchovy fillets. Save space in your shopping basket for a Pepe Saya cultured salted butter and a bottle of Italian wine (or two). While you’re there, show love for local family-run brands like Rio Vista Olives. Their olive oil (made with beauties from biodynamically farmed olive groves) is loved by chefs nationwide.

For a more substantial meal, Italian joint Nido hits all the Italian high notes. Go for a ‘Pranzo’ lunchtime antipasti and pasta tasting menu or settle in for dinner. Hot tip: a window seat makes for prime people watching. The whipped ricotta with black pepper and honey begs to be scooped with gnocco fritto – legendary for a reason.

For pizza, look no further than Melt, located right next door, or ShoSho for stellar Japanese Izakaya-style dining, accompanied by sake, naturally. From wonton crisps to sashimi or the black sesame ice cream sandwich, it’s all great here.

For sweets, gelato at St Louis is great at any time of the day.

The place to be seen is (relatively) new kid on the block Alt. Wine Bar. The 200-strong wine list spans the globe and the menu ‘hook, line, and sinkers’ the pre-and-post dinner imbiber with individually portioned snacks. A dark, moody mural by Adelaide artist Alex Bellas rounds off the aesthetic.

If spirits are your go-to, particularly whisky, Spier & Wright is a sweet little whisky bar and retail space selling the good stuff and hosting producers from around the globe for special one-off tastings.

For pre-loved cool factor, head to Better Together where a carefully curated offering of vintage and quality secondhand designer clothing fills the space. The small business champions sustainability and if your own wardrobe needs a Spring clean, it’s a great place to rent a rack and make a bit of cash. It’s all the thrills of op-shopping, minus the clutter. There’s also a store dedicated to children’s clothing.

Denim Inequity is stylish clothing and accessory store that pretty much has it all. Ladies, the shoe offering is particularly appealing, especially if Birkenstocks or sneakers are your jam.

For a classic experience, the iconic Wild Child Stylelab has turned heads since the 1990s. As gowns and formal clobber goes, this is coveted coat hanger material.

Finally, social butterflies should flit to Plus One where the future of fashion is dress hire. Founder and local fashionista Eli Moulton puts heart and soul into curating a collection of head turning high-end outfits that are available to hire for special occasions. She caters for all sizes and frocks can be altered to fit. It’s a wonderful concept and a winner for anyone who doesn’t like to wear the same thing twice but has respect for the environment. Happy shopping.
