Route 31:
At a stage in our lives when time is a currency, spending our treasured weekends completely inspired is essential.
The spectacular Route 31 Coastal Drive guides you along arguably one of the states most treasured coast lines from O’Sullivans Beach, Moana, Pt Norlunga, the enigmatic Maslins Beach, Pt Willunga and of course the silver sands of Sellicks Beach.
Beginning at the O’Sullivans Beach boat ramp gives you a sense of what may lay ahead. You can launch your boat and fish from the teeming seas of the St Vincent Gulf or even throw a line in off the rocks. Its closest neighbour and next stop is the underrated Christies Beach, an excellent swimming beach and seaside shopping precinct.
It’s hard to believe the beauty of Port Noarlunga and South Port, with its winding sand dunes and enclave of cafes, restaurants and shops nestled in amongst a rather cute undulating suburb. The coastal treats keep coming moving us through Seaford towards Moana, which has historically been a pristine family vacation spot and now boasts a newly renovated surf club, perfect for grabbing a coffee before walking the beach and readying yourself for the next part of the journey.
Maslin beach behaves like something out of a Mediterranean post card with its private coves, famously home to Australia’s first nude beach. A quick pit stop here to feel the sea on your skin can transform any road trip. Port Willunga is quite possibly the quintessential mid-coast jewel with is glorious outlook, caves to explore and a seaside eatery that is a must do on any SA trip, this beach makes anyone laying on it look good.
Aldinga, Silver Sands and Sellicks beaches are the triumphant trifecta to complete Route 31. They each provide an incredible amount of fun, relaxation and sustenance. Charging your battery by eating in their world class restaurants on the sand (Pearl, The Little Rickshaw, Silver Sands Beach Club) and falling asleep on the towel after a swim in some of the cleanest crystal blue waters the world has to offer.
Mesmerizing ocean vignettes keep your window view into the coast wound right down as you are spoilt for choice at the vistas dotted across the journey.
Magic memories are easily made with the ease of which the Route 31 can be followed, guiding you like a treasure map from gem to gem. The sun sets alone, are worth the drive.
